Luka Doncic reacts to Dirk Nowitzki reclaiming the sixth spot on the all-time scoring list

In what may be the final major accomplishment in his legenday 21-season career, Dirk Nowitzki claimed the No. 6 spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list by passing Wilt Chamberlain Monday night.

Nowitzki needed four points to pass Chamberlain heading to the game and earned eight points in the contest, pushing his career points total to 31,424.

Nowitzki passed Chamberlain on a 20-foot fadeaway shot just above the free-throw line over Kenrich Williams off an assist from rookie teammate and star Luka Doncic.

“He deserves everything good to happen to him,” Doncic said. “It’s just amazing the things he’s accomplished. It’s a big deal for him and for everybody, so I’m happy for him.”

This is Nowitzki’s second time at sixth on the all-time scoring list this season, as he spent a few years with the title before LeBron James passed him earlier this season.

It’s not likely Nowitzki will continue to rise in the scoring standings this season, as Michael Jordan sits in front of him in fifth-place with 32,292 points.

Nowitzki has made 1,960 three-pointers in his career, good for 11th in NBA history and the most by a seven-footer. Shaquille O’Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar are the only other seven-footers who rank in the top-10 in all-time scoring and have converted on a combined two three-pointers. Chamberlain played his entire career before the introduction of the three-point line.

By passing Chamberlain, Abdul-Jabaar is the only seven-footer to score more points in NBA history than Dirk Nowitzki.

“It’s a long way away,” Doncic jokingly remarked about potentially passing Nowtizki on the scoring list. “This is just my first season. I will have to work a lot, but we’ll see, it’s a hard thing.”
